Hello - I recently acquired the Lionel US Navy set made in 1994. Its number is 6-11745. I love it and it seems to run well and track nicely. I've even added some additional Lionel US Navy-related rolling stock. The consist is pretty impressive, because this engine can pull quite a few cars across my club's extensive layout.

My question relates to the set's searchlight caboose. It has a road number of 16550, and is marked as US Navy. It has a slot in the top of the caboose, but nothing's in it, so I figured that would be for some sort of chimney or smokestack. The set was still sealed, so this part was never with the caboose nor loose in the box. I looked on other eBay listings, and that's exactly what I found - just a slot on the caboose. Looking at earlier Lionel examples of this type of car, I see that many different ones over the years did utilize a chimney or smokestack. I'd like to see if I could get the correct part number for this item. It looks like I could probably order a replacement from a Lionel parts supplier, but I want to get the correct one the first time.

If someone has an extra, I'd appreciate that as well. For now, though, I only need the correct part number. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Uberstationmeister,

Thanks for the info. Now the hunt begins. This set was new in a sealed box, and there was not a chimney taped to the underside of the caboose, nor were there separate railings for it. They were already installed. It's hard to say why. I've seen new sets advertised on eBay and other sites and none that I saw seem to have a chimney. Since there's a slot in the caboose's roof for one, I'd like to add it. I appreciate your help.
