Gilly, I thought this sort of thing had been addressed previously. Did I miss something? I'm sure you will re-enlighten me.

That is, SOME of us do not sit at the computer glued to the OGR Forum and this thread every minute. Thus, upon the occasion/moment when we are present, here, several very interesting posts may be a bit up the line. So, we allow ourselves the creative freedom to react to those, also, not just the one immediately in front of the line - in front of us.

Perhaps, I misinterpreted the intent of this thread; that is, to have creative interaction, and some spontaneous communal conversation with fellow hobbyists who have crafted scenes that link to some created by ourselves, on this forum. No?

Would you like to see a list of the numerous "Likes" I have received for my postings, including the offending (to your sense of order and regimentation) postings I just removed? Never mind. That was rhetorical.

That makes sense, to me, of course, John H. However, one might want to consider another factor.

I have voluminous files of photos. It often takes a while, in the midst of living my life, to search through them to find one that I recall which might be pertinent to that latest posting. However, then, often, I edit and crop photos to help configure them to be as pertinent as possible, and hopefully interesting, too, linking to the posted photo to which I initially reacted. Yet, that posting might well have moved along the queue, and be some chronological distance away by then.

Enlighten me, again, please, as to what the harm is in my being so enthusiastic when responding to a photo that I might take a while to find a photo of my layout efforts that I feel may give some enjoyment to others on the thread to see? I still do not comprehend what the necessity is for getting scolded for being a bit out of chronological order with a reply, sir.

For example, I have been working on getting photos ready for the posting recently about tunnels, and one featuring a plowed farm field. They have moved along the sacred queue, so shall I delete my files prepared for these two topics (10th and 11th postings back down the line from here,) by JackieJr and  Randy and, thus, absent myself from posting in creative reaction to them as I planned? You tell me. What you and/or Gilly direct me to do, I shall.

IN all fairness MOONSON; I think Gilly is right on. Occasionally there are  times I have researched and been ready to post a photo only to realize I have been out drawn so to speak. According to the established game rules I just wait till the next opportunity to post a photo. Seems to me there's no rush to enjoy each others  photos. I hope no offense is taken by my comment. This is an enjoyable game, why complicate it?

Might as well post a photo while I am here.

BTW, in response to all the hubbub, "Rules?  Where we're going, there are no rules!"  I'm also hopeful our train guys will be pretty safe.  There's a lot to be said for home entertainment.

In defense of "The Rules", for lack of a better term, I have this comment. I post a picture chained to the previous post. The next post is "linked"  to a post two or three posts back. That essentially trashes my post.

Without taking a position on the issue being debated (Frank, please keep posting: your scenes are magnificent), there is an element of speed in the Photo Chain game, like there is in Jeapardy, IMO, if one's post must have a connection to the one immediately prior. Arnold

Yet, John, there are different kinds of chains, some successful by linking with others in several directions...

In law (I happen to be a lawyer and mediator but don't hold that against me, LOL), there is an expression "when reasonable minds can differ," which IMO is applicable to the issue being discussed.

If we end up going with the strict approach to this game, to make it more acceptable to those that prefer a more liberal approach, like Frank, who may be the best model railroader involved in the Forum IMO, one can think of it like the game of  Jeopardy on TV. There is a timing component, and the one who posts 1st, wins, and his his/her post remains; and the one who is late, loses, and deletes his/her late post.

For many, that timing component could add to the fun. 

Personally. I have very mixed feelings about this issue. I think I'm very creative, but tend to be a slow poke, not Speedy Gonzalez. Also, I believe slow pokes have the ability to harness their subconscious minds in their creative pursuits and can accomplish great things; while those that do things fast may process more quickly; and we are all special with diverse talents and gifts. Since the topic of " playing by the rules" is being discussed, and in all due respect to those involved;   I really think everyone here, either longtime players or those who have somewhat recently started playing Photo Chain Game, are good folks with good intentions.  

I've been enjoying my ( and others as well ) participation in the Photo Chain game almost from the game's inception.     Recently, I've observed that some longtime players have stopped playing because the rules as set forth by the OP have been distorted... some have made this statement on this thread ie: P51.    I quietly took a hiatus for a while for the same reasons as P51 left the game.   I came back to the game ( and yes it's only a game ) once I saw that the game was going smoothly again.    

I've chosen not to participate again, when my last  post was trashed because the very next poster's  photo had no content related to my photo.    At that point I made the choice to quietly leave the game.  

What has made Photo Chain Game fun for me is the "original rules" set forth by the OP.   I have over 10,000 photos of my layout and it sometimes takes  considerable time to locate an accurate photo.   By the time I post the photo, there has been a " Quick Draw McGraw" who has beaten me to the finish line LOL!   Out of respect for the " rules of the game" and the " Quick" poster, I delete my post.  

 I always try to "get it right" by making sure my post has some of the same content ( if only one item ) as the photo posted immediately before.  I do this out of respect for " rules of the game" and respect to the poster whose photo my post will follow.  I think this to be fair.    I'm envious of some of you guys because you are great at finding the smallest item in a current photo and following up with your accurate post.  

The rules set forth by the OP are plain and simple.  As Jackiejr said " why make it complicated."  

Just thought I would let my thoughts be known.  And yes, after all,  this is only a game.  

You guys are a great bunch of folks and I greatly enjoy your talents  .... be safe and be healthy.

I agree with patrick and Arnold'.  However, I have stopped participating in the thread as it has become to complicated.  The big problem is the forum web site it self, the way it set it up.  There's too many members posting at the same time.  This interrupts the sequence of a related photo being posted at the crucial time' it is required.. to match the original'..

When the fun is removed, and posters have to explain why their photo was posted and or removed.  It becomes a waste of time. Especially when the poster is also criticized .  That adds insult to injury to the poster'... so time to move on'...

To anyone and everyone that I may have upset or insulted by my comments, I sincerely apologize. My focus was solely to make an attempt to get this thread back on track. I have done my best to edit and sanitize comments and postings that I made to the broken chain.

I will admit that it was discouraging to post only to see the next post refer to a previous post. This rendered my post meaningless and occurred more than a dozen times.

In the future, I will strive to post pictures with lots to choose from.
