I am trying to make pine trees using the bottle brush method. The rope I purchased from the hardware store does not seen to spin correctly giving me decent tree branches. In addition it is very hard to separate the strains decently. Is there a special kind of rope (like a hemp) or diameter that is recommended?

I've literally made 100's of bottle brush trees using hemp twine, not rope. Use the 180# twin.
180lb. Hemp
Natural color 180 lb. hemp cord used for jewelry, macrame and accessories. Three strands, approximately 3.2mm (1/8&rdquo thick. 100% pure hemp! 1.1lb. (500g) ball. Approx. 200 feet.
Thanks Nick, I will look for the Hemp #180 double twist next time out. With holidays not to sure how soon, thanks again for the help
One additional question Nick, Do you paint your trees or flock them to achieve your desired color and look. I have seen both of them used. I have been flocking my leafy trees with good results.
I too have made hundreds of Pines using HEMP. Once the tree frame is completed, I Paint the a dark dolor usually flat Brown but Black will also do. After the paint dries I spray with Super 77 aerosol glue and flock with FINE ground foam. The two tree under the words RED CROSS are two samples of trees on my home layout
