Recently I was at Lifeline Foods in St. Joseph, Missouri and had an opportunity to photograph their two diesel locomotives.  I could not locate the builder's plates for either locomotive and am seeking your assistance.  Any help in identifying their locomotive type and the year of manufacture would be appreciated.  Thank you, Bo

The first locomotive:

I did find an Engine Data Plate inside the hood of this first engine.

The second locomotive:

I agree CWEX.   The first loco is an SW-1 and the second a GP-7.   It looks both have been modernized or rebuilt to some extent.

The SW-1 had roller bearing trucks and the originals did not as far as I know.   The SW-1 entered production just prior to WWII.   I think Pennsy bought 1 in 1939.   Not sure when production ended.   This is a "later" model since it has front cab windows that are straight across the top.   The early ones had arched windows like the NW1.   Also the slope on the hood in front of the cab comes directly down to the cab front.   The early ones had a step.   The hood was straight out of the cab for a few feet before angling upward, again like the early NW1.

The GP7 I would think was originally built with a high short hood.  I don't think any were originally built with low short hoods.   As far as I know, that option did not start until the GP18 or GP20 came out.    So most likely, along the way, the short hood was lowered.   It most probably was totally rebuilt inside too maybe more than once.

They both look in very nice shape.   I particularly like SW1s.

Your welcome Bo. Glad I could help.

Yeah this SW-1 was a late model, as prrjim stated the windows are a good give away...I think they changed in mid to late 1950. In doing some more research I see the RCLX reporting markings and came across this photo from a few years back.

I'm fairly certain this is the same unit. With some changes and a repaint....and more photos of her prior to the RCLX photo above.

Looks like the original build date is Oct 1952.
