This thread really got me thinking about how I designed, built and operate my layout. I knew I wanted to model one railroad, Penn Central. It would be Hi-Rail with scale equipment and scenery. I only had a space of 10 1/2' x 12' to work with. I wanted to be able to run trains in a continous loop as well as do switching. This necessitated several sidings for industries. A branch line and a small yard were also desired. Control would be TMCC. The size of the room dictated 042 curves. This limits the size of the equipment that I can run. I also wanted to create scenes that tell stories and could be easily photographed. Here are a couple of photos of the overall layout. Please forgive the junk laying on the table. I didn't even see it until I looked at the photos on the computer.

The GP9 is on the main line. The SW8 is on the branch line. A lift out bridge(lower right) connects the branch line to the other side of the layout.
Small town is on the left with industrial area on the right. The branch line crosses the main line to service the grain elevator and industrial area.
The branch line is at the extreme right. The two track yard is accessed from the main line. The branch line intersects with the main line behind the factory in the upper center.
