I decided to make a custom letters to Santa car for my scale Polar Express. This was a MTH Milwaukee road rpo. Came out pretty well for my first time ever doing something like this.

You did a great job!
Great workmanship! Thanks for sharing! Question: DId you airbrush the paint job?
Nice job Lad!
Very nice
Thanks guys! Yes I airbrushed it! Took a car to lowes to do a color match. I thinned out the household latex paint from lowes with a little water. Run through the brush pretty well.
Nicely done and great color matching. I know many folks have used Krylon's satin Burgandy as a close match for the red but how did you come so close to matching the blue? Please share with us what you used for the blue.
Yes I experimented with that krylon first because I also read that. But when put with the factory cars it is not even close. I think it would be ok if you made a custom set. But like I said I took a factory car to lowes and they color matched it with their computer! So it's a perfect match when put with the factory cars

Do you happen to still have the two containers of the Lowes color matched paint? If you do, would you please share with the comuter color code numbers for the two colors which Lowes put on those two containers? Also, what was the exact mixture/ration you used of water to the latex paint? Thanks.
Nice!!
It was roughly 3 parts paint 1 part water. I recommend doing some experimenting before you start blasting cars.

How'd you do the lettering? Exquisite job!

Mitch, there are a lot of good decals on the market! I met one guy, I believe his web sight was lbenterpise.com. He makes all the PE decals and while talking with him he will actually make any custom decal for you! Great guy to work with.

Including the words; "Letters to Santa"?

Ah! Yes, I've ordered from him in the past. Didn't know he did custom work. Will have to investigate once I'm in funds again...

I debated on wether to actully put "letters to Santa" on this car... I chose not to because this was going with the scale higher end set so I wanted to keep it more realistic... so I chose to go with the actually "railway post office" instead. The "letters to Santa" is on the cheaper O27 set. But don't let me discourage anyone's creativity! Either will look nice!
Thank you for posting the color codes! I've used Testors "Intermediate Blue" and Krylon Satin "Burgandy" with fairly close results, but I'll have to try this.
