I was thinking of buying the Polar Express set Nassau Hobbies and was wondering if it is any better than the O gauge version? It seems like it has a lot more features than the other version. I guess what I want to know is that is it worth purchasing?

Well, I don't have the O gauge version, but the S version has better scaled cars that are longer with snow on the roof like the movie. Also the Flyer version with FlyerChief is the same as LionChief Plus, which I think is an upgrade to the O version.
I don't think you will be disappointed. Not only I, but my neighbors thought it was a great train.
P.S. they did see my O Scale layout years ago, which was rather impressive.
The flyer version is considerably nicer from a scale and detail standpoint.

Thanks, I am going to buy it. That was a big problem with the O gauge version it just seemed it was low quality and it had a puffer smoke unit that was anemic. I watched some you tube videos so this is a definite purchase. Thanks for the input.
You will be glad you did! Perfect size for under your Christmas tree!

It's a done deal I ordered in from Nassau for an amazing 299.00 including shipping but unfortunately they were out of the add on cars. You can't beat that price for all that you get with it.

I think Lionel designed the O gauge Polar Express to meet a price point agreeable to "newbie" families. Thus, instead of the six-wheel die-cast trucks found on some of its "baby Madisons," we got four-wheel plastic trucks. At least there are two power pick-ups for each car.... a step above what Lionel had done by using just one per car on some prior passenger cars that flicker badly. I am an O gauger.. & have the O gauge Polar Express set. I may get the S gauge version, but will wait until the first production run "sells through." Hopefully, a new batch will be available by the end of the year. Maybe by then they will have ironed out the much discussed problems with the S loco's smoke unit and the mis-assembled add-on cars.

Not Sure how soon it'll be before a "new batch." The separate sale FlyerChief Berkshires seem to have outsold the FlyerChief Polar Express faster than you can say A. C. Gilbert.
