I read that Scott might consider doing there instead of the SD40-2.
I personally would buy one of these if 3rd Rail would produce them.

There have been some discussions. It was hoped that the SD40-2 would have been a nice gateway unit to newer type power, however it seems the transition era locomotives still sell the most numbers. Time will tell. We are finalizing graphics on the E6s now for production pretty soon. The F3s will be next most likely and we'll see how the FA announcement goes over.
I would be interested in a GP7P myself as C&NW and CNJ were similar on that variant and a CNJ one would save me the time of modifying an ancient Kemtron GP7 I have!
I have asked Scott about this a number of times. Right now I would go for 2 GP9s and probably a GP7 in Pennsy. But I have a stash of Red Caboose kits and conversion Mechs to build the GP9s. I am hoping it makes a go before I start to build!
A PRR torpedo tube GP7
and PRR GP9 and GP9B
I would also consider the Paducha (re) built GP's as well!
I would be in for at least two PRR GP7s
I would be a player for a B&O Blue GP9 in three Rail command. I personally think their attention to detail is where I am leaning to, also the quality control seems to be Job 1....Great Thread, hope it can become reality....Happy Railroading
I have several locos in this category, but would have to consider a GP9 in Maine Central livery. It's just not very exciting...

How about an RF&P?
I might be a buyer for some CNW Torpedo Tube units

I think the only way a more accurate SD40-2 is going to happen is through Lionel's BTO system. Their current SD40 and SD45 are modular so that they can interchange some of the parts. Plus their Kinematic system is what's needed for accurate truck placement.
Once an accurate SD40-2 is produced,it opens the door for a SD45-2 as the underframe is the same.
I say we need some GP-38's....everyone had those and the all manufactures make the GP-35's....
N&W GP9's: black with "gold" lettering/logos........ oh yeah........

K-Line made a decent GP38 for it's time. I picked up a conventional one at a recent auction and while it is not nearly 3rd Rail quality it stands up pretty well compared to the other major three rail manufacturers.
While I’m an all steam guy, there are two first generation diesels I would love to have. F3 or a GP9 in NYC or B&M. Can’t afford the F3 Scott is doing but if the price point is right, one or two GP9 would look good on my pike.

You and me both. Hopefully they'll add the extension to the end of the long hood for the steam generator equipment.

+1 on the CNJ, Jonathan! If offered, that would become my first 3rd Rail locomotive purchase...FINALLY! Believe me, it's not that I haven't wanted to join the "3rd Rail club"...I've been admiring their offerings for a LONG time now, patiently waiting for a model and road name combination that suits my interests.
Then...if 3rd Rail is successful with this offering of a very utilitarian/ubiquitous diesel like the GP7/9, then maybe...just maybe, they would be willing to be the first to offer an accurate, scale-sized and highly-detailed ALCO RS2, RS3 and RSD4. Hey, I'm just not ready to give up the dream!

I would like to counter and say we really need some b23-7. They were just as popular among the big sevens in the 1980's and 1990's
CB&Q GP7s for me

Weaver made a pretty decent GP-38. Those still show up pretty often.
ACL,SAL, and FEC for me. In 2 rail of course. As delivered paint schemes, please.
If a CNJ one is offered, it will hopefully be offered in a better condition than this example in Toccoa, GA (taken 20jul12):
Note that it was coupled to this ex-EJ&E (where are my sunglasses?):
I haven't purchased any 3rd rail locomotives yet, an accurate CNJ Geep would definitely make me a buyer. I didn't jump on CNJ Geeps from other brands because of a lack of road specific details. The URHS of NJ owns 2 survivors from the CNJ. I have soft spot right now for transition era diesels, if I can run it along with steam without creating an anachronism that's a win win.

I second that.

Then there were the few N&W GP9s purchased new for passenger service (500 thru 512?), painted red with special large steel discs mounted on each end, which carried the fancy N&W script logo (which was also painted on the sides of the cabs even through the GP30 units).
