I’ve seen a few passing comments about powering some postwar pieces with DC instead of traditional AC, and that they work better this way. Is this true for all accessories, or just some?
My opinion is that most accessories perform better on DC, but the vibrating platform ones need AC. I also recommend that accessory power be separate from track power.
Post-war accessories mostly use vibrator motors. A few exceptions would be the 397, 497 coal loaders. The 364, 164, log loaders. What else does not use a vibrator motor ?
Maybe it would be worth the effort to run those accessories than can use DC power, that way. It's something to ponder.
I run all my PW accessories on AC as they were intended. They run cooler, won't get magnetized, and no complications with additional transformer and bus types, not to mention the slew of accessories that require cyclical AC for vibration/motion.
