Hi Everyone,

Well, I have finally reached the time to start building my retirement layout. I have been collecting various Locomotives, Rolling Stock, Track, Buildings, and more since the middle 80’s and I am wondering what is the best type of transformer and setup to go with. I have a maybe 3 DCC locomotives, but mostly DC. Have been using a MTH Z 4000 with a converter box to run small setups, but I have been told that is rather unconventional.  Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You ! 🚂

Hi,

Your power supply is dependent on many things such as how many trains do you want to run at one time, how many operators will you have at operating sessions, etc

If you want to run more than one train at a time and you want more than one operator at a time, I would suggest DCC.

Personally, I have an NCE radio system and it has worked well for 15 + years.

Best of luck,

Ed
