Hello all, I have a Lionel Commodore Vanderbilt locomotive and tender. The transformer I am using does not have a switch for the whistle on the tender. How can I get the whistle to activate? I don't want to buy another transformer. Thanks.

You can use a Lionel # 167 Whistle Controller which gets wired between the transformer and the track. They are readily available usually at local train shows and on eBay

A postwar 167 may work, they are older technology. I have one and had to upgrade it to modern diodes. A modern bell/whistle control 8632-10 or 8251-xx series could be more reliable. There are discussions with diagrams if you want to build your own.
