Problem with Lionel GP-30 locos

Thanks for those who responded to my previous post about my two Lionel GP-30 locos which stutter along with an occasional spurt. Both responders suggested there was a problem with the magnetic ring(s). After checking them , the rings were in proper position and intact. Any other suggestions??

Check and see if the traction tires are dragging the brake shoes on the sideframes. Its easy to spot, there will be clean rings on the traction tire where it was dragging. The easiest solution was to put MTH traction tires on because they're thinner, but I suppose that now depends if you can find them.
