Gentlemen,

I have some friends with Cab 1 problems.  One has two controllers on which the buttons are hard to press down.  It feels as if the material or springs under the buttons has stiffened up.  It is becoming difficult to use.  The other has a Cab 1 where the speed dial turns freely performing no useful function.  The rest of the control works fine.  Given that my knowledge of these matters is practically nil, I would appreciate it if anyone on this forum has any advice on what is going on and if and how the problems can be corrected.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Phil

It has been a long time since I've had a Cab-1 open, but if I remember correctly, there isn't much in there. The keypad is just a molded piece of rubber with little metal tabs embedded in it. The tabs make contact with the circuit board when pressed.  It is possible that dirt has gotten in there and it may need cleaning.

The red speed control knob works by using a slotted cylinder and an emitter / collector pair that shines through the slots and registers the increments and direction of rotation. Again, this could be dirty which would cause it not to work.

I say go ahead and open them up, you can't really hurt them, and you might actually be able to fix them.

Good luck!
