Finally have the track laid for 2 loops.  We ran four engine on the outside loop for the first time on Sunday.  Now time to wire up the switches & the second loop.  Then we will start putting scenery etc around the outside of the layout before we start finishing the inner track.  We are very happy that there are no signal or electrical problems.  I made sure there were enough blocks to keep the power constant.  WE use a combination of DCS and TMCC with Gargraves Stainless Steel track and Ross Switches with one double crossover.  WE will be able to go the inside and back out again.

We know that our layout is not perfect but it is perfect enough for us, we are learning and having fun.  I hope you enjoy the photos and keep in mind this is our first MAJOR attempt at a layout this large.  It is going to be primariliy for switching operating sessions.  My grandson love running his Polar express on the big loop.  He was amazed that we could run 2 Little Joes, a GP38 & a Mohawk on the same track at the same time.

The layout is 61" out from the wall, 16.5' wide at the ends and 45' long on the sides.  I will as things progress post more pictures.  Thanks to all of the forum members that gave us good advice.

MichiMikeM, the area we live in is pretty flat.  On the outside loops will be factories, sand dunes, etc.  There is a Korber Power Plant going in the right front corner.  My wife's M & M factory on the very end of the right side complete with loading and unloading sidings.  The right side in the middle will have a grainery also complete with silos.

On the left far side will be an Army post with M113 armored personel carriers & jeeps.  The left front is going to be an engine house for the Little Joes.  The CSS & SB runs down the middle of the street and we are going to model a block of that.  It is pretty planned out with room for change as we go.  But the outside scenery is decided.  The inside will have a steel yard and a scrap yard with 2 operating Lionel Cranes one with a bucket and one with a magnet somewhere on the left side.

Thanks pennsyk4, In my old house I built a 16 x 12 room in my garage and built a layout.  It didn't get completed because I built a new house.  It took me three years to finish because I did it all myself.

I am fortunate my wife likes trains also. That is why I buy her what she wants for it.  She just got a MTH NYC L3a Mohawk (our only steam).  The only thing I do not care for are her RAILKING M & M CARS.  It's keeps her happy and that is all that matters.    It is a fun family project that I may never see completed.
