Hi, can anyone help please ?

I have a new PS 3 loco, and it sounds as if the smoke unit motor is constantly running.

As soon as the track is powered, you can hear a 'whining' noise from the boiler (and for a while after the track power is switched off)  and when running, the smoke does not seem to be synchronised with the loco at slower speeds.

Any suggestions?

Hi G

It is a brand new Railking FEF northern steam loco, and I am using DCS. I have tried a factory reset, but still the same.  The smoke motor sound started the moment I initially powered the track to programme it into the DCS, and has not stopped at all whilst on powered track.

I realise the thing to do would be return to shop it was purchased from, but I live in England and it is from a store in the US, so if you can offer any idea's it would help please.

Is this a PS-3 loco?  If so make sure you have a good connection between engine and tender with the wireless drawbar.  If that is fine, remove the engine shell and examine the wiring to the smoke unit making sure nothing is pinched, damaged.  Carefully remove the 32pin connector from the boiler board by the connector not pulling wires, and reseat it after ensuring no pins are bent.   If the fan motor still runs on it's own I would think the boiler board has a shorted fet and needs to be replaced.

If this is a PS-2 3V engine.  The above doesn't apply, but I would still inspect engine wiring, but you will also have to look inside tender.   What model #?  G
