My PRRT&HS "The Keystone" arrived yesterday. In it is an article on PRR's unique firefighting equipment. You guys will really "Foam(ite)" over this baby!

Now THERE's a scratch-building project from the scrap box if ever I saw one!!
Derelict flatcar + derelict tender body + derelict wood-sheathed boxcar + doors/windows modifications + paint/lettering..........!
Too bad it's not my favorite prototype.
Wow, that's got to be the ugliest cab forward I have ever seen
...for fire fighting equipment though, that is certainly a smart use of old bits
Okay, I laughed my own tender off at that.

Har.
Anyone know the flat car size?(length)

The article doesn't state the length of the car. Only that it is an "F31a" and that the cistern is an ex-"70P70a".
According to the equipment diagram on Rob's Pennsy stuff website, the F31a was 63 ' 6 "" over the striker castings.
Hey, the Pennsy was just recycling before it was trendy.

Reminds me of an old Varney HO kit I bought in about 1957, with a flat car and an "Old Lady" 2-8-0 tender body mounted on it --- fantasy work equipment. Oh, wait, not a fantasy !!
Looks to me like the flat car is a little more than twice the size of the tender body.
Thanks for posting this, it's definitely on my someday list.
I saw that as well. I'm foaming at the mouth over it.
Well, maybe not.

PS: Yes, there are pictures.
I like anything PRR/PC yellow. I can print as many black decals as I want.

Thank you for your summary.
I was actually looking for a study of PRR's motorized fire apparatus and their use at PRR's facilities.
Big Jim,
Just got my copy of The Keystone today. Looks like an interesting article. Thanks for pointing it out.
Tom
