Hello!

I have a protosound 1 Santa Fe set that i have decided to take out of the box and run for a while. I opened the train up and put in a new 8.4v rechargeable battery that i know is good since i have recently used it in another train.

The issue I am having is that when i cycle the engine into drive, the first engine containing all the protosound equipment will start to move fine but the rear engine refuses to move although the lights are on in the second engine from track power. When i power down the track, i noticed the small green lights on the front train remain lit while the train completes it's shutdown, the second engine's lights immediately go dark when i remove power.

I have ensured the 4 pin connectors are inserted fully and facing properly and the battery is good since I can see the lights stay on and I can hear engine shutdown.

Any help/solutions are appreciated!

Thanks!

I opened both engines, inspected all the connections for the wires entering/leaving the engines and each plug seemed to be fully inserted and all wires connected. I also looked at the port on the second train and all wires are soldered on properly.

Everything appears to be connected properly inside and out of the train?

I have that set also. It is from the 2nd run of MTH F3s.

The first run had 2 motors. The 2nd run 4 motors.

Both sets are 2 of my favorites.

Try putting DC power directly to the can motor of the 2nd unit.

If it worked when you put it away it might be a wiring issue.

If it is the slave board they are available. I think one can be made from a PS-1 board.

I am still fairly positive that either there is something wrong with either the slave board or the wires connecting the engines. The can motors run fine with direct power. The directional lights do not remain lit on the slave unit during engine shutdown as they do on the master unit.

I can't tell you for sure if this train has run before, last time my layout was set up was 14 years ago, (i'm only 15) but the center rollers do have some signs of wear so it does look like this train was once operational.
