What year did the Mth Ps2 5 volt start and what year did the 3 volt system start?

2000 for 5 volt boards
Then there was a transition from 5 to 3 volt in 2004 and by 2005 all had the 3 volt as far as I know
If you're curious about a specific locomotive, enter the model number into the MTH site product search. You can see from the manual if it has 5V or 3V boards.
I have done that and the parts dont always show up. Is there another way to tell ? I dont see where its 3 or 5 volt unless I see the picture of the parts and I see the battery and then could tell what type Thanks Joe
I wish I could take some MTH classes.
You can look at the sound file to help. Also the instructions.
If it is PS-2 3V it WILL have the rectangular charge port. G
1. I enter the model number of the engine on the MTH product locator
2. Click on the engine number
3. Click on the manual icon
4. Look in the table of contents for maintenance
5. Look for the page for ( Self-Charging Battery Back-Up ) usually on page 15 or 16 for most engine I have.
There you will see the battery location and type.
I see Joe has got you covered, I should have been more explicit as to where to find the info in the manual.
I just wanted to know if I was looking on Ebay. You have to look up the number and not all locomotives are listed but if I can find the date I can assume wich proto version is in it. Thank you.
Look for the charging port. If it has none, it's an early 5-volt or a very recent PS3. If it has one that's round, it's a later 5-volt board. If it's rectangular, it's a 3-volt

PS1 engines also have no charge port.
P.S. I forgot to add that MTH Loco-sound engines don't have a charge port, so watch out for that also.
