I posted this on the electrical forum but maybe will get more info here. Has anyone done this? How hard is it to fit the tach reader on the flywheel, the Pittman motor looks pretty big. IF there are any other things to watch out for let me know. Are the marker lights LEDs or bulbs? I figure bulbs since I believe this is a mid 90s engine. I would appreciate any help before I get started. Also is this TMCC or just sound? The tender has multiple boards sandwiched together with a QSI label on the chip. I am going to do this for a friend who has had a stroke and only has the use of one hand/arm.

Sounds like a QSI sound and reverse system, maybe a 3000+ for mid 90's. No TMCC if it's QSI.
The marker lights are likely bulbs, but you can probably change them to LED's with the conversion so you don't have to worry about constant voltage boards and stuff.
You may need to modify the frame where the current tether plug is so as to accomodate the PS-2 socket.
You will also need to get a separate MTH PS-2 smoke unit to replace the current one. It should fit the boiler without problem, but you will need to make a mounting bracket or something similar.
MTH tach tapes fit up to 33mm flywheel. You will need to check the size.
The upgrade kit comes with a bracket that fits most Pitman motors, so you may be OK in that regard. The reader may have to be oriented underneath the motor to not interfere with the shell.
You should have bags of room in the tender for the electronics.
Depending on the gearing, the scale mph may be off, and the chuffs may not be in sync with the drivers.
It won't be as clear cut as converting an MTH PS-1, but it's doaable if you have PS-2 upgrade experience. It will likely be an all day project.

Thanks Rod, that is exactly what I needed. I had not even thought about the smoke unit! I have not had the engine shell off yet to study how it was built since I am still working on the idea of doing it. Yes the tender is huge, that will be the easy part. Thanks again
