I have a two rail MTH U25B that has  engine sounds that are obviously from an EMD sound file. I believe the U25B is a PS2 engine. Is it possible to upgrade the PS2 engine with a sound file from a PS3 engine, like a U30C? Or do I have to identify a GE PS2 sound file and use that?

I also have a new MTH Niagara, a PS3 engine, that has an incorrect bell sound. (Ding-dong, ding dong) The Niagaras and all other modern NYC power used an automatic, air actuated bell ringer. (ding-ding-ding.) The previous MTH Niagara, a PS2 engine, does have the correct bell sound. Can I install that, while retaining all of the other PS3 sounds?

Generally, is there one way or two way interchangeability? That is, can PS2 sounds be installed in PS3 engines, but PS3 sounds cannot be installed in PS2 engines?

You cannot put a PS3 sound file in a PS2 engine.

No, you cannot. Although you can put a 3 volt PS2 sound file into a PS3 engine, it's a complete replacement. You cannot do it piecemeal.

PS3 sound files cannot be installed in PS2 engines. However, PS 2 3-volt sound files can be installed in PS3 engines.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase  from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
