I believe this could be a simple question but then again.... I have a small conventional layout (details later) that I'm considering getting a PS3 loco for. My "simple" question is: what PS3 control equipment do I need to just operate the loco? With all the "bells and whistles".

The layout is 5'X16' with two concentric loops that are not attached at all, the track is Gargraves and the power is supplied by a MTH Z4000.

Any special wiring requirements?

I guess what I'm after is what the basic cost would be for the equipment before I go blindly ahead and buy a PS3 loco.

I hope this is the right forum for this question.

Thanks for any and all responses,

Steve

You could just get the small MTH Explorer to start with a use a phone or pad to control the train.

or the whole DCS system if you plan on growth would be a good investment that's reasonably priced. Just add it to a good power supply.

I guess you need to say if you want WIFI control or just the DCS remote? How many engines will you run at a time in the future? Will the layout get bigger?

Engineer-Joe, thanks for the response. I do not want WIFI control, just DCS remote. One engine at a time on each loop and no plans to enlarge layout. I get a little confused with the array of equipment available. All I want to do is control the engine, no accessories and I want to enjoy all the features of PS3. Even though the Lionel Lionchief+ does not offer the features of PS3 it offers extreme simplicity with no additional equipment requirements. If I decide to go with DCS I would buy Barry's book for all the additional info, but right now I need to know bare minimum equipment to get running.
