I purchased an Air Force 44 Ton switcher this past summer (NIB) and have yet to get away from the unit dropping into what I will call the PS3 screech mode.  Both the chain file and sound file have been loaded multiple times, but to no avail.  Today, I downloaded the files once again to ensure nothing was corrupt, cleaned the engine wheels and download track, and powered the engine on/off multiple times after a successful download.  The engine would run perfectly fine until it was shut down and restarted, then it may or may not start up without the high pitched noise. I have noticed that the engine sounds stop almost immediately when I kill the power.

I am at the point where a MTH tech is probably required.  Any thoughts?

I'm also interested in understanding what fix they would have minus installing a new board.

Thanks!

You need to go warranty route via MTH.  The 44 ton uses special PS-3 S board.  That specific problem has been rare too me, but after all those reflash and sound file loads, the board has issues.  If my memory serves right the one I had was PS-3 diesel like that.  Required a new board.

PS-3 S does not have full super cap and does shut down abruptly when power turned off.  G

Getting screeching, after certain flash or sound file loads using the program does occur.  But that is usually during the load completion and resolves with the power cycle.  I too have had the occasional issue were a reload of the flash and or sound file fixes it.  But when it is randomly producing weird sounds, or works right one session and not another and a reload does not fix it, that is something wrong in the hardware/memory.  The only choice is a new board.  That one for me has been very rare.  G
