NBC4 news reporting that eBay site hacked by stealing employee passwords to gain access, everyone needs to change their passwords immediately per their report. I know this should be a banned topic but this is a public service as many, many of us us it. I have received no eBay email yet.

Thanks Paul
Saw it! Changed it!
...keep the rails polished...
Thanks Paul.
Wow.... Changed
Glad I caught it, very noticeable that no emails from eBay warning us subscribers. I appreciate the Forum Moderators letting this one ride for awhile as it can cause real problems if your identity is stolen like you wouldn't believe.
Paul,
Now I know why you never say much. When you do say something..People Listen Way To Go, Thank you!.
I do not watch the new much. Saw this here first. I appreciate it.
I've been reading or hearing this report all day. Nothing from Ebay, either though their message boards or email.
I wonder if the report is even legitimate.
i timed out trying to change. everybody must be doing it.
got notice back that account is "inactive" until the password changed.
also reports that no compromise of paypal info.
I just changed mine. I had a problem getting in. Try this: Go to the main page and scroll down and at the bottom of the page you will see "site map". Click on that and you will see "change password". That's how I got in.
I read Paul's post shortly after he posted it and had no problems changing my password. I guess I beat the rush.
There was an obscure notice in the lower left corner of my home page, but that was it. Seems like they should be making this more public.
Thanks Paul!
Ron
Just did it; patience - it was so busy at first that it didn't even recognize my User Id - which I had used to sign on to the site for a while earlier this afternoon!
They stated that no activity can occur on your account - or a similar statement -
until your password is flagged as updated, so be patient.
Easier said than done, I know.

Ive been using a PayPal security key generator for several years after my account got hacked. The ke generates a 6 digit random number that has to be entered every time you log in. Even if they do get my number the keygen keeps my accounts secure
I got that email some time back, at least several weeks, and I changed my eBay password at that time.
Actually, periodic change of passwords is just prudent policy for all internet access, especially that related to financial matters.
So, whether the NBC report has substance or no, we'll take the opportunity to make a change.
Thx,
KD
I closed everything out. Don't need the worries.
On your My eBay page at the bottom left corner is a link to the story
Paul...thanks for posting this!!

Thank you, Paul.

Paul,
Big time thanks.

I saw it on the news but hadn't done it yet. Thanks for the reminder.

I changed my password for ebay. Is there a connection with PayPal account information if ebay was compromised?

Hi All,
All of the facts (as presently known by officials at eBay) are on this page:

Thanks to the Forum for allowing this message to get out, and hope that none of us have to deal with problems of identity theft.

While it associated to EBAY, it isn't a thread that is critical of pricing or a particular sale item. It's more informational so I suspect that's why it's no harm, no foul.

And it also looks like no critical credit card info was taken. Like Gunrunnerjohn I got the e-mail some time back, but I wasn't concerned since I haven't had an active account in years and anything they had would have been very stale. Still, if I was doing any ebay lately I'd change everything just to be certain.
Paul:
Thank you for your kindness and consideration in taking the time to post the news regarding the eBay situation here. I knew nothing of it until I saw your thread.
Thanks again and best regards,
Bob
Thanks, Paul.

spending only one minute looking at each user, it would take over two centuries for anyone's account to have an even chance of being viewed.
more junk mail?
i doubt if i'll even notice.
people who don't understand probability must lead a very stressful life.
Not only that, but this breach happened MONTHS ago!
News reports I heard yesterday afternoon put the time at around February or March.
They've had your information for 2-3 months now. Not sure how much good changing your password is going to do.
That said, Ebay wouldn't have more than your name and address, and possibly a phone number. They do all their charging through paypal, which is a separate site.
For those of you who complained that ebay "forced" you to get a paypal account if you wanted to sell or buy anything, start thanking your lucky stars right about... now! Sometimes there is a method to the madness.
