I just bought a PW F3 AA NYC set. The front coupler on the dummy keeps blowing open.It appears that it is some kind of electro coupler with some kind of actuating mechanism on the bottom of the truck. What can I do about this problem? I have Fastrak. Thanks in advance for any help on this. Nick

A shoe? Plastic with a channel and rivet/contact? That would indeed be for an electro coupler. They tend to pick up power in some turnouts and open unexpectedly. Cut the wire, tie the shoe raised, glue it raised, paint the contact, etc. There have been a lot of threads on that fairly recently.
You could open the electro couplers with a command board (part hasn't changed much), whistle relay (+ an extra relay), or magnetic reed switch if you wanted too.
It may also be as simple as the coupler plunger spring has weakened. Can you confirm that it is opening electrically, or is it just popping open?

Rob I ran the two AA's on a loop by themselves for an hour and the coupler did not open. Nick
Sounds like the spring, then. Part number TC-112.
Rob I think I fixed it.There were some stray strands of wire hanging off the connection to the coupler. May have been picking up voltage. It is not doing it any more. MAN this thing pulls heavy loads for being 60 years old. It works runs great and is in great shape Thanks again guys Nick
