I see this chalky substance show itself quite often, usually on link couplers and wheels. So far, I have been lucky and have yet to purchase an item that shows this.
What is that exactly? Can it be cleaned? I've yet to see it knuckle couplers...just curious.

Clean with low heat on hair dryer and Q-Tip.

I suppose it's some sort of impurity in the plastic; the science of which hadn't really been around all that long when this stuff was made...(?)

It's mold release that's part of the plastic's formulation. Leaches out over time.
