PW Madison Heavyweight cars | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I just happened to see an Ebay sale (items were sold recently) where there were two PW 2623 Manhattan cars and a 2624 Manhattan car. All three cars sold for over $1,400. My question is why did Lionel give a different number to a car 2623 that already existed? Also, some of the steps were broken on the 2623 cars. Why did they sell for over $1400 (January 2022). I happen to have two of those PW Madison heavyweights and I was going to see if I could find an Irvington car but now, I am tempted to sell the two cars I have (no boxes and there are steps missing on one of the cars. The other 2623 has all the steps).
