I just received a Lionel Union Pacific Lion Chief Plus 0-4-0 A5 Steam Locomotive #6-84968

Here's a picture:

84968

It runs nicely with the Lionel Lion Chief APP and I plan to run it with my Legacy controller after (some day) the Base3 arrives.

I was wondering about the tether and looking at the parts diagram for the tender here:

https://www.lionelsupport.com/...NDER-ONLY-6984968T01

It looks like the tether has 6 wires in the connector that plugs into the locomotive but only 2 wires show coming out of the other end in the photo. I know that the tender adds the power pickups to the locomotive's to help with maintaining power, but is that all? Unlikely since the speaker is in the tender.

Thanks in advance for any replies to help me understand.

Stan

Front Coupler, head light, marker lights, cab lights, if any. Can motor, you mentioned. There would be at least one wire for the TMCC antenna, but probably part of the tender.  Smoke unit power, if TMCC controlled. Sometimes there is a chuff sensor, that syncs the chuffs/puffs, to the drive assembly, requires a couple of wires.   An older Seuthe smoke unit, would take a couple of wires. ???
