The new command control gantry crane has added forward and backward motion with powered wheels. What is meant by "special track section for gantry unit motion available from other manufacturers (not included)"? Anyone know what track section they are talking about from which manufacturer?

Ross has one as well (Part GAN29). Planning on using this for a Gantry Crane (if I decide to get one)

Thank you, two manufacturers, twice as many choices as I was expecting.
tr18, what kind of track is shown in your picture and is the gantry track the same kind as the other track? Just curious.

The track is Gargraves as well as the gantry track. We have another one on the layout from Ross. Both are fine.
Another option is to lay your own rails for the crane. I used code 148 for mine.
This should be a great accessory. I motorized mine and it adds significantly to the play value. Mine is a TMCC version with crane movement provided by a motor under the table.
This one will hopefully, have better response times than the previous TMCC cranes which had the TMCC receiver in the switchbox.
it will be interesting see what they will be priced at.

I'm really hoping they don't price me out of the able to buy it category. I would really like to have one. The command control with movement up and down the tracks is the cat's meow! I think my grandson would love it.
tr18, thanks for the info on the track types. I have Atlas track so either one will probably blend in pretty well. Although I use Atlas switches also, in pictures I have seen the Ross switches seem to go pretty well with Atlas track.
I was excited when I heard about the command control gantry crane. I had hoped that Lionel would have used the cab and and boom from the TMCC MOW crane. The MOW crane has to be the coolest accessory. When I saw the image in the catalog with the big crank on the rear of the cab and LIONEL stamped in the frame I was bummed.
I guess I want to play with toys but I don't want them to look like toys...silly I know.
I sure hope they put in some sort of 'crew talk', like the crane boom car.

I would like that also, hopefully they do have it. With an off switch for those that don't like it, of course. Would much rather have it and be able to turn it off than not have it at all.

Isn't "crew talk" activated by a legacy/TMCC remote? If you don't want to hear it, don't push the button??

I don't know? Do know lots of folks don't like it though. Just got my Legacy 990 last week and it's still in the box. Temp layout has been dismantled awaiting arrival of bench work, should be this week I hope. Operating trains coming soon to a basement near me.
Anybody know how this unit will get power?
