Question about using old computer chargers on LED lights | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Curious what this barrel shaped doo-dad at the end of this charge cord is.

Do I need it left in place to power various un-bridge rectified chip LEDs, or should I cut it off the cord when I'm preparing the charger for use? Having 16 volts at 4 amps, I'm sending this charger's power through a bus bar to be shared with a bunch of LEDs.

Probably ferrite beads for filtering on the dc input.

That's kind of what was thinking Rich, a filter of some sort.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to leave it on.

It's an EMI filter to prevent the switching noise of the power supply from being introduced into the load.
