I have a couple of dead Atlas engines with TAS SAW boards. I have all functions except motor drive. I want to rule out the R2LC but am not certain what version is in there (no label). I have a lots of Ver 08s. Does a SAW board require an earlier version or should an 08 work? In this case a new 08 does not make any difference with this engine.
BTW Atlas diesels are a major PITA to work on. Chinese puzzles are easier to figure out how to take them apart.

The SAW works fine on the C08 R2LC, that's all I've ever used.
Most of the motor drive issues I've had with the SAW have been the triacs, though one had a bad opto.
I'm currently working on an Atlas GP35, and you're right, a giant PITA! They must have hired a chimpanzee to design the lighting circuits! I don't know how something so simple was made so convoluted!
