I have a few questions for those of you that own Lionel scale telephone poles, that would be 6-37939 (assorted), 6-37995 (lighted) and 6-37851 (standard):

  • Are these poles plastic?  If not, what are they made of?
  • Are they hollow?
  • Are they one piece or built in sections?  Do they come apart?
  • If they are hollow, do the wires go through the hollow center?
  • Any idea what gauge the wires are?

Many thanks,

George

I am still trying to get the poles off of thier bases!

I believe they are plastic

the pole is one piece, then the base than the separate add on details

not sure about the cross arms, I will look tonight

and never did use the screw in base that the phone pole snaps over...

anyone know how to take the bases off?

I appreciate the info.  Please advise me of your progress.  I am designing a lighted arm for a telephone pole and trying to determine if the Lionel pole will work.

Yes, they are made of a very hard plastic a bit less flexible than most.

  • Are they hollow?

I don't think so - I haven'tcut one in half but I drilled into the bottom 1/2 inch and they seem solid throughout.

  • Are they one piece or built in sections?  Do they come apart?

Mine came assembled, in that respect they are one piece.  They have been assembled.  Some of them have thin metal brases and such.  Crossarms, transformers and such have been add.  The pole itself is one piece I think.

  • If they are hollow, do the wires go through the hollow center?
  • Any idea what gauge the wires are?

As small as the smallest real insulated electrical wire I have seen but larger than scale.  They don't look that bad, but I removed the wires and re-wired them with thin fishing line.

Many thanks,

Lee,

For the lighted ones (6-37995), do the wires (that you connect to the power source) come out of the bottom?

What gauge do you estimate these wires are?

Thanks,

I actually don't recall, I have my lighted ones modified and glued against the side of buildings for clearance reasons and I ran the wires into the buildings and used their feed wires for power.  sorry - it's been a while.
