Just wondered if others have noticed that often when the ringing bell is turned on using TMCC, it takes several tries to get it to shut off? This seems non-engine specific and occurs with most, if not all TMCC steamers.

I only have one TMCC steamer... run it using the Cab-2 and it often does behave as you describe.
That sounds like signal issues, I don't normally have that issue here or at the club. Of course, it is a one-way conversation, so it's possible it can be missed on occasion.
Yep. I have a couple of them that do that. Railsounds 4.0 ? Sometimes I have to bring the engine to a halt to turn it off. Otherwise you have to hold the bell button up for longer than 3 seconds.

I need to give that a try!

I have the same issue with my K-Line Big Boy and Allegheny for turning on and off, holding the button for a bit longer usually does it.
All of my Lionel TMCC engines do this, My K-Line Allegheny does not. I just hold the button down till the bell stops ringing. Annoying, but I just figured thats the way things were.

Edit: Thinking about it, I think that the one 'command ready' engine I had since back in the day did the same thing with the transformer bell control. A quick press would start the bell, but it you had to hold it for a few seconds to turn off the bell. Don't know if one has anything to do with the other, but figured I'd add it to the mix.

It's not just "on occasion" John; its all the time. Meanwhile all other TMCC signals work as intended. its only turning off the bell that is kind of flakey. Once back home I will have to try other Cab-1's and the Cab-1L to see if they all behave this way. Legacy engines don't seem to have this issue; only TMCC.

Press the bell and hold for a second. Release. Does the bell turn off after a few seconds? I do think some engines have a bell sequence, so it is not instantaneous. G
I've seen it on occasion, but most of the time I don't have issues like this. George is correct, there is sometimes a delay before the bell responds. I suspect that's due to the one-way nature of the TMCC signal. I also wonder if the sound board waits until a "cycle" is complete, never thought much about it.
Thanks guys. I will mess around with it a bit and see if I can draw any conclusions. It is nice to sound the bell as the train is departing, but its a pain if you cant shut it off easily. No worries however.
