According to MTH product locator, this will be a 4 car set which is a disappointment to me but still picking one up. Beside its being a PS3, think anything else will be different? Maybe decals?

Also, noticed R-17 red birds (30-20181-1)will be released as well. Is this the set with a silver roof or all red?

The product locater in the description states silver with blue stripe.

Also lists another R-17 set 30-20182-1 says "red bird" but also in description states silver with blue stripe, but has different car numbers. Also has add-ons 30-201 81-3 and 30-20182-3 and on flatbed 20-98953. There are no pictures yet on the product locater.

I don't see MTA heralds on the R-142s or blue and silver R-17s so I guess the licensing issue with the agency hasn't been resolved.

Wow... Mike threw us a bone huh... Anyways... Does anybody know the route for all 3 sets? Its total BS if hes doing the R17 Red-ROBIN ( not Redbird) scheme in and the R142A in the 6 Train again.. Is the R17 in MTA Silver/Blue the 6 as well?

They also came out with the LIRR MU's passenger cars Grey with the orange front.

I'm picking up 3 sets of those 142's the R17 's are nice also, may get that one too, but I'm hoping the sound package on the 142A's will be diffrent

Really? whoopty-Do.. How about an R12 in Silver & Blue? Or an R17 in White? maybe a little imagination.

I had been hoping for a set of R-21/22 cars in the blue and silver scheme with signage for the 1 Train but I guess that's not happening, at least for now. Does anyone know what the signage is on the blue and silver R-17 set in the new catalog? I'll take a guess and say the 4 Train unless that's the 6 as well.

R-143's would be my new offering as a company!

Assuming buyers of the R-17 and R-142a sets will have to apply MTA heralds on their own, is Island Modelworks the vendor of choice for proper decals?

I think Island Model works would be one of your best sources, unless you make your own logos.

Haven't seen the catalog, but from talking to MTH my understanding is the R17s will be in originally delivered maroon...not another red te-tread. No MTA logo needed. Plus, the 17s never really wore the "Redbird" silver roof scheme other than the museum car in Branford 6688. If you want a Redbird set, I'd be asking for the R36WF set to be reproduced in red/silver Redbird scheme. Still hoping for the R15 in silver and blue down the road, but at least the 17 in maroon is something different. Looking forward to that. The 142 us supposed to be a re-run of the last set so I would think that would mean a 5 car set and possibly a catalog typo. Will try to find out for sure today.

howabout an R160 with opening doors? But if it has to be a rerun, change the color. They did the LoV's in how many colors? Show some type of a thought process.

what really ticked me was that mth went and made another R36 set but they didn't change the scheme, the still kept it the world fair color, it wouldn't kill them to make a red R36 set or an R33 set. 

Good news. The R17 will in fact be a new color. Maroon. Catalogs will be wrong, but website will be updated. The R142 will in fact be a 4 car set with 2 car add on to bring it in line with all the other Railling subway set ups.

No one wants maroon subways.

They will never sell just like those stupid Q cars. 

 

Most would be interested in having blue & silver R-36's.

I saw on the mth site I looked at the R17 on the flat cars and other silver and blue one is the 2 train and the marron set is the 4 train, take a look on the site for yourselves

No doubt I would prefer the R15 in silver and blue but a new scheme on a SMEE car is an improvement over what we've seen lately. Far cry than those old Qs. lol.

Mr Chris, How are ya?  So its not the same R17 Red Robin scheme from awhile ago? Also, will they still be producing them in silver/blue?  And why the heck would they make a 4 car-R142A? Doesnt MTH read this board to see what we want?

Hey Zach, I'm doing great! They are in the process of "adjusting it" ...but it will not be the red robin you see in the catalog. It'll be original as delivered in 1955 maroon. I believe the silver an blue is being made again....not exactly sure why they chose 17s again but that's what we are getting. Not much could be done about that, but the color was an easy fix. As far as the 142s go, they under produced them last time, and MTH is well aware of how they have been selling on EBay. New tooling is extremely expensive, and while I think there are better options for their existing tooling, for now we have to hope these do relatively well so they will continue to produce subways. Obviously I want the R15 in silver and blue, but theres a lot more involved with making that than some other current options. For now we get 17s in maroon and I believe silver and blue with PS3. I'll actually really enjoy the maroon 17s and may even get the silver and blue...a little blue paint and some cannibalism from an R21 or R26 storm door and I've got a whole different set.

The R17's in maroon will sell better then the Q's. that was the biggest blunder yet. Where did that come from. Was that one of the mayors projects?  You couldn't get 200 for a six car set. I'll take an R17 in that color.

Lol Brian. You know exactly who's project that was. I have every single subway made except the powered Qs. I only bought the add on of each to put in my "museum train".

SO IN REALTY,THE ONLY KINDVE NEW SET MTH IS RELEASING IS THE R17 IN MAROON.ALL THE OTHERS ARE RERELEASES.AND ANOTHER 3 YEARS TO SEE THEM.HA..

IS THE RERELEASES AT LEAST BEING RENUMBERED.OR ARE THEY ALL THE SAME AS PREVIOUS.

Chris, perhaps you can answer this.. The new R142A Set in the catalog shows it as An A-B-B-B set with no A unit at the end. Is this an error, or is MTH really going to make this set with 1 A car and 3Bs?

I saw the same thing Zach. The only end unit I see is on one of the flat cars.

I'll find out.  Obviously an A-B-B-A while not quite right would be how it should be released.  Can't have a subway that can only go one way! lol.

It's probably nothing more than one of MTH's typical catalog "foibles" although it would certainly be a good idea to check to make sure the finished set is configured properly within the constraints of it being a four car set. 

 

I thought perhaps the reason for the delay of the printed catalog might be the company was finally taking the extra time to proof it and check for errors but I guess I was wrong.

Zach, The R142A is still the 6 line =/ The maroon R17 is the 4 train and the R17 blue and silver is the 2 train, if you look closely at the pictures of them on the flatcars
