Hi guys,

I'm At it again and of course i have questions and trouble, I think i should start to consider another hobby since i bother you guys with everything. anyway, I recently purchased an older NYC Coal tender with Rail sounds in it, The Battery was pretty messed up and so was the 9-volt connector i replaced all of that including the wires for it  However when i put it on the track and add power to it, I get the loco sounds no bell no whistle and occasional chuff also if i cut power for a second the sound goes off and won't return unless i let it sit for about 5 Minutes, Then apply power again sometimes it comes back sometimes it doesn't, I checked all of the wires going into the plugs and all are good, tried the obvious ground and power both good.

Any Thoughts???

Thanks

Do you know the Lionel ID number for the tender? 6-?????  That helps

Take the battery out and try it.  Battery is only needed for continuation when power is off, shut down sounds etc.

If it works well without the battery, could the wires have been reversed?

If it uses the wire nuts for connecting wires, I have undone and redone the wire nuts before to fix loose or corroded connections.

Don't worry about bothering us, some of us like to play detective.

I don't have the answer but you might want to move this over to the TMCC, Legacy, ERR forum.  There are a number of folks over there who may be able to help.

My thoughts, check the routes for the power, wheels, pickup roller, make sure all is clean. Remove any excess lube that may be inhibiting power flow to the railsounds board.

Maybe try jumper wires direct from transformer to the railsounds board.
