Overall, I saw a lot more than I expected to see. I didn't see hide nor hair of the Mission Mountain Railroad, except for a string of boxcars near the airport in Kalispell. Outside West Glacier, however, I had a surprise: A BNSF intermodal with an NS "top-hat" Dash-9 standard cab and a BNSF-lettered Santa Fe Warbonnet. Once inside the park, we stopped at the Lake McDonald lodge, which had an antique GN map of the park (and squirrels). On our way back out of the park a few days later, a BNSF manifest with a quintet of GEs flashed by with a manifest. On another day, we stopped by the Amtrak station at Whitefish, where a pair of GP39s were idling with a local freight, and a pair of Dash-9s headed out on a light-power move. Nearby were a mural of a BNSF train and GN NW3 181. All in all, a successful trip.
