Recommended wire to repair postwar Lionel engine | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I would appreciate a recommendation on the type of wire to use to replace damaged wires in a postwar Lionel diesel engine (gauge, etc) so that it has the same look as the original.

What does the original wiring look like? Through the years, there were variations in the wire used.

I've attached two photos of a 1952 Lionel 2023 diesel ... my first electric train. I would like to have an assortment of wires of the colors shown in the picture (black, green, red, yellow). Thanks for your help.
