Hi

Since this was first meet I would like to thank everyone that has pointed me in the right direct with their tips, suggestions and knowledge making my first York Meet a great experience.

I would also like to thank Rich of the OGR Forum and his crew for the meeting. It great to see all the manufactures in one place talking about their new products.

Everyone was correct about correct about wearing the right clothing and foot wear. Cash did not bring enough and the ATM where still worked and issued cash.

The best deal I got from the non dealer was in the Blue hall I was able to purchase the following:

Lionel 1950 Diesel $20.

KW for $40.

Super "O" parts $20.00

I also saw some wonderful freight cars their but did not purchase them.

The best deal I got from the member's Orange Hall.

MTH GG-1 30-5118-1 for $250.00 new!

OGR members that I was and able to meet with and speak to.

I saw and was able to personally thank GRJ and Marty for helping me out on a number of different issue and parts over the years.

I got Barry to sign his book for me.

I also saw another two members and I was able to speak to one of them. I thought I had a long car drive to York and back home 4-5 hour ride each way. I meet up with Steve and he told me his ride home was 29 hours one way, OUCH!

Overview:

Would I go again the answer is yes. Would do a one day trip no you do need two days to see everything.  I only got to see three halls only: Orange, Purple and Blue. I got their at 9:00 am and left 4:00 pm and had sensory over load. Would I bring my family no the little one (4 years old) would not like the car ride and be bored.  My wife would drive me nuts. She loves the trains and layout when I put it up but not the shows. I am speak about my family only. I spoke to one of the Grzyboski and he told me they bring more stuff to sell in the winter because of the larger number of people.

Took a good friend...HO Bob...to his first York on Thursday along with Mayor Bill K. HO Bob always wanted to go to York after hearing all of us 'Jersey guys' talking about the show. Since he was into HO, there was more O than HO but just when we were leaving the Silver Hall, HO Bob found an MTH HO engine he just had to buy...a Boston & Albany Hudson...it made his day!

After Thursday supper at the OCB (Old Country Buffet) with Corsair 29, his brother 'Matchbox RICK', Vic (Studna Pierogis from the RMT CNJ boxcar),  Dennis + son + grandson, Mr. Sherry and, of course...OHO Bob (OCB must truly be his favorite eating place at York) we 3 headed back to NJ. To keep awake we listened to Sirus Radio 50's music all the way home. 'Oh What A Night!'

October is only a few months away.

Hello all, I've been reading these York threads with great interest and pleasure! I hope to make the pilgrimage in October for my first visit. Couple things; I collect the vintage European/British stuff (mainly) and different gauges, is there much there what shows up? Also, are that sort of collectibles confined to the one hall? If I don't 'find' anything that's fine, I just want to visit and see for myself!

I will be there for a full week so other things to take in, I really want to see one of my favourite engines GG1.

Thanks.

You will find vintage British and European stuff in some of the member halls and some in the Orange Hall.  It varies from meet to meet (sometimes it is feast, sometimes famine, and sometimes in-between), but this past meet I do remember seeing some Hornby and Marklin stuff in member halls.  It will require some hunting, but that is part of the fun of York.

As for GG1's, you are in luck.   You will see lots of GG1 models at York ranging from the Postwar toy sized ones to the scale detailed ones made by Lionel and MTH.  You will probably be able to find them in other gauges/scales as well (with a little more effort).  And if you make the short 35 mile trip to Strasburg, you can see the real deals, including the very first GG1, "Old Rivets", at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, and if you can make Strasburg a day trip, you can also ride the Strasburg Railroad, visit the TCA's Toy Train Museum, and the Choo Choo Barn layout.  All are worth visiting!

Hey!  thank you Andy, I really can't wait to see and photo a GG1....a fabulous design IMO. Definitely 100% on my to do list.

I was under the impression the members hall and orange hall was mainly the Lionel guys, which are always interesting to see.....but I can only collect/spend so much! I know for certain my eyes will be like saucers. A GG1 is high on my list to buy......to boast....it came from York!

That is good information.....many thanks.
