Regrets on Something Missed

My regrets about things I wish I had ordered but didn't usually pass.  Either I find the item later on, sometimes at a better price, a manufacturer comes out with a better version of it, or I decide I am no longer interested in it.

Now there are a number of items I purchased and then regretted doing so.

When I started in the hobby three years ago, I settled on MTH Premier 18" passenger cars as the sweet-spot for my layout.  Now, I only wish I wasn't so tepid on purchasing more sets.  I have quite a few but had I known they would totally disappear, I would have "backed up the truck".

Oh Boy!  I have a whole list of locomotives that I missed out on when they came out. In most cases I didn't have the funds at the time.  There were a few cases where I wanted to see one in person before I committed.  There were a couple locos issued by MTH that I passed on because I only run TMCC/Legacy.  In any case, I missed the boat and regret not getting them when I had the chance.  The ones I most regret missing include:

I was fortunate to find an Atlas O Penn Central SW8 after several years of looking.

@Mike in NC - I don't feel like it's so much procrastination as the belief you'll be able to obtain the product after release.  I get the impression this past year has been the worst for product releases with no extras available.  I too had looked at the Lionel Southern E8's.  I was apprehension about the price and worried that the final product wouldn't live up to expectations, so I did not do a preorder.  (I did find them for sale yest. when I picked up my B&O passengers and I admit I'm not wholly sold but not completely dissuaded...except by the incredibly outrageous mark-up.) Same for the MTH B&O smooth sided passenger cars.  I ordered the Vista Dome thinking that I could use that as a pivot on purchasing the other pieces.  Now I had to pay a small premium to get 6 of the other cars (yest. in fact) and, it's fairly clear, that I will probably not be able to get the RPO to complete the set.  The same applies to the E8 locomotives...I bought two in lieu of pacing myself...well, pacing yourself on purchases just doesn't seem to work anymore.

Interestingly enough, I'm running into a whole other problem.  I have preorders for items and for whatever reason the rest of the group ships except for my choices.  I have the new Lionel Freightsounds NYC Boxcar...did not ship with the others...the MTH B&O GP7...did not ship with the others...and the list is becoming fairly staggering.  I'm still waiting to hear back from Steve @Mr. Muffins regarding the B&O Vista Dome.  Do these manufacturers see that I order something and purposely don't ship it or produce it?...surely not.
