Repairing a Lionel Type V transformer | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I recently acquired a nice reddish-brown marbled case Lionel Type V transformer. Since they are pretty rare I want to use it on my prewar layout. somehow one of the holes in the case where the knob shaft comes through has become oblong. Therefore, the gear has a tendency to slip. Has anyone every repaired this type of problem? I have been considering drilling the hole larger and using a brass rod to sleeve the hole. Any better ideas?

You could cement a drilled Nylon / Delrin(or similar) plastic sleeve or collar to the inside of the case... Bakelite doesn't like drilling into it.
