Has anyone thought about replacing the metall rail keeper with a wood block & some sort of fastener to hold rails in place?

Need more info and/or photos.
Ok
You could use wood and some O gauge spikes to hold the rails. Don't think it would be worth the effort. I use the old Lionel track and add some additional ties between the metal ones.
You should also take a look at Gargraves track, its got wood ties.
Scotie,
Where did u get the additional ties?
Pat
3R Plastics makes them in brown for O-27 and black for O-31. I believe the best way to buy them is on Amazon. Go there and do a search for 3R rubber ties.
I use these with two additional between the metal ones and am working on ballasting the track. Think it looks pretty good.
Awesome . Thanks!
Removing and spiking tinplate rails to wood ties would be an extremely tedious and time consuming task! As suggested above, if you desire wood ties, go with the proven and time-tested Gargraves trackage!
Thanks.
