Looking for help on this. Recently acquired a 3rd rail locomotive and the board is fried. The engine made a few laps and then the dreaded smell of burning electrical parts and sudden stop put an end to it. I removed the tender and found the source of the damage. From my understanding these are Lionel electrical components. I am a complete novice to these things and would appreciate any advice that can be given. Can the board be replaced? Where can I find such a part? Any and all help is appreciated.

The small boards you removed are Lionel but the main board was made by Train America Studios aka TAS. They can be had but many just replace them all with Electric Railroad components. There are few ways to go depending on if you feel comfortable doing the repair yourself or sending it out.

You might want to post the Model & Model number.
You have a pretty classic failure of Train America’s EOB electronics. I would make plans to replace everything with Electric RR components if you want to keep it TMCC. Mostly likely the motor sensor went along with the R2LC. The Railsounds board and its power supply may have survived but aren’t really usable without a RS motherboard to host them. You may want to seek out a competent tech to do all the work.
Keep that speaker, they are pretty nice!
If you want to do this the cheap way, I have a couple of EOB boards and the Lionel boards if needed.
The ERR upgrade parts are at least $300 with shipping, then you have to do the install.
I dread the day when the TAS MoBo dies in my 3rd Rail J3a Hudsons. I've converted the Niagara to ERR and will be doing the same with the J1d Hudson shortly, erradicating the TAS SAW boards.
Thank you to everyone who has posted here. These responses are great place for me to start reviewing options for repairing the engine.
