Replacement power cord for Trainmaster base?

Thank you for the idea but on the parts website, the part is out of stock. It's also 20 bucks. I wonder if there are other suitable replacements or substitutes. 

The brick puts out 12VAC at 100ma, and that's it's rating.  Open circuit, it puts out a little more than 13VAC.

You can round up an AC output brick in the 10-12 VAC range and add the earth ground connection externally, that's what the 3rd prong does on the brick.  You can't use the much more common DC bricks, either regulated or unregulated, the command base depends on the AC waveform and has a circuit to sample for zero crossing of the power.

Not for this, but I've built other usb pigtails. Use a heavy usb and use it's wires on the data plug rather than solder on the tiny usb boards. I also prefer to wire splice and tie-lock a "saftey loop" with the splice in the loop when going mini to "heavy" wire. Light wire to light plug, heavy wire to heavy plug.  

This part from All Electronics will get you up and running with your barrel/coax connector / pigtail. Connect the center ground screw to the sleeve lead.

Thank you Gents. Sounds like I need to configure a new power pack if I am understanding correctly. How or what sleeve lead do I use if I go with that wall transformer?

A DC Barrel Coaxial Power Plug to Bare Wire Cable like this one(the black wire is the sleeve, the red is the tip):

You want to be careful picking the barrel connector, the command base uses a 5.5/2.5mm connector, not the more common 5.5/2.1mm connector you'll find on most of those cable assemblies.

For the transformer Rob points out, you'll want to connect the outside of the barrel to one of the transformer leads and the center lead that is connected to the round ground pin.
