Just about finished a restoration of a 221, and I broke one side casting of one of the (whistle) tender trucks. This is the forward (non-coupler) truck and is of the staple-sided with pickup variety. The casting 'shattered' - no doubt aided by age.

So is it possibly to simple press a new one on the staple and fix with CA or epoxy?

So far I havent found any loose castings - only complete trucks. How easy are they to dismantle considering one broke so easily?

The truck is riveted and below the whistle - don't think there is room to replace the truck and use a screw as an alternative approach.

I have some ideas about improving the whistles ( probably amount to original whistle + modern electronics & motor). It would be annoying to have to buy a second tender, but if I did, this could become a donor for experimenting....

Just went back and looked back at it. I thought it was rivetted, but no, there's a clip. I've just managed to unclip the other truck. Of course the broken truck is under the whistle relay so more screws to remove!

Still a lot easier. I agree entire truck removal is a lot easier - but I was thinking it was a rivet and I was thinking replacing that would be less practical.

Thanks.
