I only have this car from the set.  Take a look at it twice.  It is one of the manufacturers sample cars.

My father has the entire 12 car set but has never taken it out of the shipping boxes.  It is getting about time to consider a second run of this train.  Perhaps there might even be interest in a second run GG1 to go with it and this time around powering all the drivers and upsizing the motor to pull more cars?

I am dreaming on that one.  I think the GG1 market is probably saturated even though I'd enjoy having another 2 rail one for my collection as if I needed MORE GG1s.

I hope someone does post the whole train.  I have seen photos in the past, but it would be nice to see a video of it running on a layout.

Love that! It should be displayed with one of lionels “American Railroad” S1’s that had to be corrected.

I extensively upgraded that Sunset GG1 to include better pickups, stabilized motor mounts, better electrical pickups, more weight, adding PS2, and powering  the third (innermost) axles:

Nice work on the GG1.  Would you consider authoring a "how to" on your work?  I have two DGLE Sunset 2 rail models in 4800 and 4859 and would like to do a similar upgrade.  My 3 rail Conrail Bicentennial 4800 does a fine job pulling due to the traction tires.

@GG1 4877 That's certainly a one of a kind model! Good luck with your upgrade project.

@Dj'sOgaugetrains Thanks for sharing your video, I don't know why I couldn't find it the other day. This is exactly what I'm looking for as I try to find what cars were made for a future modeling project.

@John Sethian Thanks for sharing the great pics of the train in action on your beautiful layout!

Depending on what that project is, you might want to consider the Congressional series cars from Sunset [ proper ] made quite a number of years earlier.  These came as I recall without trucks or decals, and had no interiors -- but if you were going to use these cars as a basis for something else, that might be an advantage, especially economical.  It might also enable you to acquire only, or closer to that, the cars you 'need'.  Those shells alone are drop-dead gorgeous.

Have fun, SZ
