Retired on June 30, 2014 from New York State. I had a very good job but I don't miss it, though I do miss the people. The good part, other than that every day is Saturday, is that someone was promoted to my supervisory position, another was promoted to his position, and a third was promoted to western supervisor. New people will be hired to do the jobs vacated by those promoted, so a lot of people have benefitted from my retirement. Plus, I get to do things I didn't have time for. In fact, we (the Mrs and me) are so busy we wonder how we had time to go to work. There is life after retirement and it is very good.

In 6 days it will mark my 3rd year of retirement after 40 yrs in the FD. I do miss the people and sometimes the job even though I still volunteer at times. I can't do it as much as I would like to since I have been dealing with medical issues for the last couple of years.

But all in all I enjoy being retired, where else can I go and get paid for sleeping, eating or what ever I want to do. Some of the people at work always told me that I would make more being retired then working. And they were right I do make more.

I do have a couple of businesses but I can do them at my pace now.

Still employed at 2 jobs at age 56. Out  on medical leave for rotator cuff surgery  since Dec 10, probably out another 2 months or so. Then back to work hopefully until I break down again.  Had knee surgery last January.  Been that way since I hit 50, seems like 1 thing after another. Been doing physical therapy for 3 weeks,  at least 2 more months of it they figure, fell on the ice Nov 20 & really messed up the rotator cuff quite badly so the layout sits again in the middle of remodeling project.

Still working, as I have for the past 31 years, with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

I become eligible for retirement next January (2016) when I turn 56, as I'll have 32 1/3 years of service, but I plan to keep working for 7 more years until I turn 62.

I love my job, having worked as an investigator, supervisory investigator, drug program expert, and now a senior drug program expert.  Met my lovely wife (we will have our 25th anniversary next year) when I was stationed in Puerto Rico.  In addition, I have travelled the world doing inspections (audits) of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

Peak working years at "the big company" + a personal business on the side + activities and sports for two pre-teen kids + homework help + wife + trying to make sure the time with family and friends is real quality time = one very satisfied but frequently exhausted 40something who really appreciates the value carving out a couple seconds here and there to focus on this hobby.

I have a "long plan" for my layout and I make progress in small steps!

Fortunately for me this forum provides a great opportunity to see what others have shown can be done.  Most of what I see on this forum is pretty impressive, fun, and teaches me a lot. It's a nice mini-escape.

The only commodity we can't get more of in life is time....

I choose my priorities with this in mind.

(Spence, I'm really glad to see you're feeling better. Take care of yourself!)
