During my 1st twenty years of my career I would have told you I am retiring as soon as I'm eligible. I could never understand why anyone would work a day longer than they had to.
As I start the down side (5 years later) I'm now rethinking and can understand why people continue to work and hang around. 40 hours a week can be a hard void to fill if you don't have a plan on how to fill them.

Still plan on working another 8-10 yrs more.
Bruce
Working 40 hrs (or more) per week.
Have to, If I want to keep getting trains!
Here is my vote:
WORKING [ X ] FOR QUITE A WHILE LONGER
RETIRED [ ]
Working (X), SOMEONE HAS TO KEEP THE ECONOMY GOING. GLAD TO SEE A FEW OTHERS WORKING
IF WE ALL WERE RETIRED THEN THAT WOULD NOT BE GOOD FOR THE HOBBY WHICH HAS AN AGED PERCEPTION
Retired since 1995 from the Federal Aviation Administration. I spent 26 years as an Air Traffic Controller and Supervisory Air Traffic Controller, at the New York Air Route Traffic Control Center and Republic Air Traffic Control Tower.

Retired after 47 years of hard work. No company pension.
I wish I was retired.......so I could play!
In December 2016, I plan to drop weekends (I'll be 63 then). Sometime after that, night call altogether.....and lastly, I'll drop hospital work and just do office.

Self employed carpenter for 44 years. Forced into retirement due to shoulder injury( had surgeries 8 years ago and all was fine until last injury- torn rotator cuff, can't be fixed again- I'm too old (67). So I decided to bring out my old trains plus some new ones, and begin a new hobby. Working on the layout now and enjoying every minute of it. Will post some progress photos soon.

Been buying LOTTO tickets for 45 years.

Looking forward to being Retired.

RETIRED 2007 ……..
Worked 33 years in law enforcement...it was a career I loved...and just retired this last June. I loved my job...but I love every minute of my retirement. I have more time to be a housewife, home project manager, model railroad construction engineer, photographer, a wine connoisseur and a grandfather to 3 girls! Although I still teach part time at our community college. Other than that...every day's a Saturday!
Matt
I just retired on Tuesday! It's great so far.
I ran trains more in the last week than in the last five years.
64 next Friday...could have retired 20 years ago if I never woulda gone to a train show or auction...STUPID RON!!!
Still working, own 2 businesses.
Left work at 60 and never looked back or had regrets. Never even missed the people, either. It's been a great run so far!

Yes, they say you have to retire to something not from something.

Almost 5 years in the USMC as a pilot after "uncle' invited me to attend the "Police Action" in SE Asia; then retired in 2013 after 39+ years with Allison Gas Turbine/Rolls-Royce Aerospace PLC. Still had the same employee ID # after all that time which makes me one of the "fossils" these days.
Busy building an around the room 11' X 14' layout in retirement + all the honey-do's...
I started working at age 16. I retired at age 70. I was never without a job, and now I can get up when I want and do whatever I feel like. Just make sure you have money or retiring will not be fun!
I am a 47 year old retired electrician. I am retired due to the loss of my right leg to diabetes, Kidney Transplant & 2 Heart surgeries.
I would go back to work tomorrow. I loved my job installing Fire Alarms.
the bad part is I would have to look for all my tools scattered every wear I work along my layout.
Could have retired many years ago but still working as I enjoy what I do. A liberal vacation policy gives me all the time I need to do other things.
Pete
On the Railroad 42 years +, most of you guys would love to have my job. I love what I do. The level of my day to experiences can only be imagined by anyone outside of the circle railroad professionals in New York.
So, ... not retired. Still playing with trains; ... and when I get home, I play with the ones I really like!!
