Last weekend I turned 66, and today was my last day at work – I RETIRED!

I had worked 49 years, for 12 Companies at 16 locations, nine cities in five states. I also had work assignments in Canada, Mexico, Germany, England, Ireland and New Zealand. I worked for a top Fortune 500 Company for 14 years, for the last one for 8 years, and the rest ranged from five to two years.

During this period, I had 27 managers or supervisors and 30 different position titles, from janitor through vice-president and president. About 50% of my work was engineering related, and the other 50% in computers, Quality, and production.

In our 46+ years of marriage, my wife Judy and I moved 13 times and have owned 9 homes. We have two sons in their mid forties, and five grandchildren ranging in ages from 21 through 1.

I plan to work on my train layout, get back to shooting at least once a week, do contract engineering work, and perhaps build a handful of products for sale.

We’ll travel a couple of times a year to places we always wanted to go but did not have the time to do so.

Just wanted to share with you!

Alex

Alan – this was the great news I mentioned yesterday. Wink

Alex -

Congratulations, sir! I am right behind you as I will retire beginning January 3rd, 2012. I will still work 2 days a week, but can easily handle that for a few years.

We look back on our occupational history and wonder how we ever did it. I guess just like we will do in our retirement years - one day at a time.

I wish the best of health to both you and your wife, and hope there are many years ahead to catch up on life.

Regards,
Mike

Congratulations Alex. You have shared several innovative designs (the trap door turntable) and beautiful handiwork. I am sure that we will all benefit from your retirement if you would now take a tighter focus on trains and just pick the pace up a little bit.
Alex:

Congratulations on your retirement (sounds like it could be kinda semi-retirement). Alan has had so many good things to say about you that I hope someday I may get a chance to see first hand what he tells me will be a great layout.

Enjoy your time with your wife. This should be one of the best parts of your life right now.
