My MTH 20-20800-1 I believe shorted out first time around the track . Bought it in June so I could have a Christmas layout up and running . Now I'm told send it back to MTH after Christmas but how do they repair it if they can't keep good repair people , can't get the parts and they are closing in 4-6 months . Are their people that can restore it to new. I have been down this road before were I lost everything because the place closed up and auction the inventory even though it didn't belong to them . Let me know .

Call extension 596 and get a Return Aurhorization (RA) number. I'll probably be the one working on it (I do all O-gauge and Tinplate). Been there 6 years, repairing trains for more than 25. Just 2 of us left in service, so send it in before Mike cuts off warranty repairs and pushes it to the ASC's.
Better hurry before the building sale is finalized!
GOOD advice as usual from GRJ! :-)
Can't get through , called at 12:32 was on hold for 53 min , was told I was 6 in line , then I went to 3 back down to 4 and then 6.
Tried again at 2:15 was on hold for 60min, went from 2 in line to # 3 in line .
I think the best thing to do is dispute the charge

The MTH service tech who replied to this thread has an email address in his profile. Have you tried emailing him?

The MTH tech that replied on this thread instructed the OP to CALL for a RA ,....he never mentioned “go ahead and email me”.....I thought that was pretty clear instructions with no grey area,....

...but if nobody answers the phone?...
I think an email along the lines of "thanks for the info, but I can't get through on the phone, can you offer any other suggestions?"
Sorry for the confusion. All of the MTH customer service reps were off today, plus we had a major power outage that took out the phones for part of the day. End of the year and many people have use or lose leave. I can't do an RA, the CSR's have to issue one. Try again tomorrow or after the new year.
John - the building already sold. MTH is just renting it until 30 April.
Jon, would it be better to send it to an ASC like Train Doctor for warranty repair , I do have the receipt from June 2020
Rem will kill me for saying yes, but that is an option. I'm actually caught up with warranty repairs at MTH, I know the Train Doctor is pretty busy, so you may want to check with him.
Train Dr. has a Premier Class A of mine awaiting an upgrade to PS3. They have had this engine since June of this year awaiting PS3 boards. I also have a Premier Y6b awaiting repair. Call before you send your engine to them and explain that your warranty may soon expire soon. Phone # 732-6607062.
lionel told me that during christmas there turn around time is 4 to 5 weeks. i am on my sixth week and cant get lionel to answer the phone. i guess i am not doing too bad compared to some of you. just seems that when you pay over 2000.00 for an engine you do not need to wait that long to get it fixed. i should have just had charles ro replace it.
A short in the truck in the very first curve is probably the most common problem and one that’s usually solved in a few minutes. Any ASC should be able to handle it.
Just wanted everybody to know . Sent the MTH Eng back for repair ( under warranty ) and got it back yesterday .
Works great .
Thank You MTH
