I would guess they based their thought process on sales and supply. If they only sold 150, as example, of them from when they first produced them then maybe they figured there wasn't enough demand.

They have added a 15 year supply because of the uproar but based on sales, that could be 100.  I don't know what the magic number is but they did get more produced because of the concern that was raised.  Whether that's another 100 or 500 IDK but they did produce them.

Marty, based on the necessity of having the module to do updates, I can't imagine any rational person having that thought process!  Since they were still producing the upgrade modules for each release previously, I suspect that the non-technical folks were taking that route.  But I believe they're discontinuing that upgrade avenue, so without the writable modules, there is no upgrade avenue!

What am I missing here?

If something doesn't sell, regardless what it's intent of use is for, it seems you wouldn't keep producing it. I think the only reason they did produce more was the feedback from the Legacy meeting and posts after the meeting.  Again we don't know how many they sold prior to the announcement.  I certainly haven't seen a large demand for them even when an upgrade has been announced.  I guess unless Lionel is willing to know what the sales were of them we can only speculate how many sold and how many they can expect to sell based on any unlikely new software upgrades.

I understand what you are saying but I wonder how many, away from this forum, even are at current software?  I've been pretty good at announcing them as I hear about them here as Dave, Rudy, and Jon usually give me a heads up but rarely do I see any other mention.  I'm also pretty diligent about keep all the inventory of my LHS at current levels.

As I said yes it's crazy to think you wouldn't have them for software upgrades but if a minority is using them to you keep producing them.  Lionel did as Dave said a 15 year supply of them but only they know how many that is based on what they've sold in the past.  Again it could be 100 or it could be 500.

Maybe I do too good of a job upgrading at York or so many people took advantage of your "free module" procedure.  I did notice there was a black module in newer systems from Lionel and they abandoned the tan ones...finally.
