Team,

I have RR-Track V5.1. I have been trying to insert a turn table and ten view it. Per the instruction, you need to go to Objects, Buildings, then select Turntable.

I insert this into the layout plan - all I see is a small red dot. How do I actually view the turntable? When I was looking to invest in a turn table I was sent quite a few pictures from forum members. Laidoff Sick, Pete and a host of others. See below.

Would like to see my plan in a fashion where I can see he TT as well as modify the track plan.

Can anyone that has experience using the RR-Track Planning software please respond?

Thanks,

Kevin

Moonman and Kevin,

I was on my phone earlier and did not provide enough info on this.  I have never been able to make the turntable graphic work correctly through the properties box.  The only way I've made it work is to go Objects>Buildings>Turntable, then put the mouse pointer where you want it on the plan.  Press and HOLD the left mouse button.  When the graphic shows up, move the pointer away from the center of the graphic and the turntable will expand.  You can do this only once, so have an idea on how big you want the turntable before releasing the left button.  If it is the wrong size, you have to delete it and try again.  A real pain, so maybe someone knows a trick to it that I don't.  I sometimes just used the circle function for the turntable, or use the circle function to get the size I want then expand the turntable to the same size.  As I said, a real pain.

CAPPilot,

I also tried this and your method is the only way I could adjust the size as well. Trying to adjust it by selection and dragging the edges (as you do when inserting it the first time) crashes the program. Try the drag, it messes up the turntable, do a CTRL-Z to undo and that is all for that session, the program gives and error message and shuts down. Using Properties to edit it also did nothing when I tried that. I think that one may need some further development?

Maybe Moonman can figure it out, he's pretty good with these things.

rtr12,

Once you get the turntable the right size, it can be moved and rotated.  However, the dots around the edge to help align the engine tracks are set a 15 degrees from each other, a bit far.  I would think 10 degrees would have been better unless you are going to have the roundhouse real close to the table.

Because of all the issues we have brought up, I think it is easier to just use the circle function to define the turntable.  However, it does take longer to align the approach tracks when using the circle.

Yep, I just tried to change the TT by moving the points and it crashed. It's a multilayer polygon structure.

I did find that you can move it by using the x,y z coordinates in the property box as long as you have the whole item selected. But you cannot resize it after it's originally placed.

But the coordinates are tough as the software places 0,0 in an unexpected location.

This why I use SCARM. This software was ok in it's day, but it's old coding.

Why don't they have MillHouse River Studio items in the libraries? SCARM does. Use the Bowser from the accessory list.

Hi Mike,

Thanks - I think you sent me the picture when we were speaking about TT's. I was trying to use the picture to add color to the fact that I could not figure out how to enlarge and visualize "objects" in RR-Track. I simply could not figure out how to enlarge it. The picture was as an artifact.

It worked as I have seen some great responses to solving my dilemma of trying to figure out how to actually see more than a red dot.

Thanks for clearing up how that track plan was made. I printed the entire RR-Track manual tonight, re read the objects instruction and used the suggestions made by the folks on the forum.

RTR12,

I have all the libraries but was using the MTH library for the tracks, curves and turn outs. I never thought of changing to Atlas or any other manufacturer. In Version 5.1, RR-Track, under Objects, the Turn Table can be selected. I will look to see if I can change and use the Atlas TT in Objects and post to the layout plan.

Moonman,

Just to further educate myself and get better with the application software, I will try using the Bowser TT.

For those that are asking, MillHouse River TT's were not included in any of the Libraries - my bet - they were not as popular as other manufacturers were when the initial package was created. Also, their is no MAC version available - I asked for that too.

Everything ok after the floods?

Some people down here have really suffered. We are about 8-10 miles from the Blanco, and to us it was just a bunch of rain, but folks on the Blanco itself were washed downstream. Onion Creek is about 1/2 mile away (also known for flooding), and though it went really big it wasn't too bad. It flooded really bad a year or so ago and washed away a neighborhood (that a friend of mine lived in). All's well there too because he ended up with a much better house a bit further out of town.

The silver lining in all this, is that the big lakes down here (like Travis) that were like 55 feet down from the last few drought years, are almost full again, and everything that didn't wash away looks green and beautiful.

Hope the tips work out for your RR-Track, I really do like the app.

You do trees the same way, left-click to start the draw, and drag 'em out to however big you dare.

Thanks for the suggestion, finally at least that worked, I was able to finally see the TT. Now I need to figure out how to size it. It is 28" dia so I am assuming that I need to use the drop box - properties and re size.

Thanks to you both.

Phil,

I draw a circle first to get the correct diameter, then draw/expand the turntable inside the circle until it is the same size.

After you draw a circle, go into its properties and set the radius to 14 inches to get the 28" size you want.  Then start the turntable draw in the center of the circle, expanding it out until it matches the circle.  I find this easier than trying to mess with the turntable properties.

Good luck.

Not only does RR-Track freeze and hang up when doing inserts (I bought a new DELL, plenty of memory and processor power) it hangs up when you open too many files. I called and left a message with the developer to ask what might be causing it.

KM

I also have a fairly new computer with plenty of memory and large SSD for my C: drive. RR-Track used to crash a lot more a couple of years ago, but with the 5.1 & 5.2 updates they seem to have fixed many of the problems. Maybe you will get this fixed as well from your report. I have contacted RR-Track by email and had quite satisfactory results, they fixed my all problems with in a couple of days. Problem was with libraries, I never contacted them about the crashing.

CAPPilot has the turntable thing figured out, I tried everything he said and it works here, unless I crash it while fiddling.
